In the tradition of Tibetan Buddhism, it's extremely rare for a
high lama to perform Grand Naga Puja and Offerings as it's
inappropriate to request such a high master to perform this time
and effort consuming activities for worldly benefits.
However, at the adjuration of these devoted disciples, Rinpoche
has finally agreed to perform 'The Grand Naga Vases Consecration
& Offering Puja' as the main part of the 2011 Malaysia Grand
Puja Program.
This grand puja consists of 'The Buddha Akshobhya Purification
Jangchok Puja, King Gesar Blessing Empowerment and The Grand Naga
Vases Offering Puja with the additional Thangtong Gyalpo's Prayer

| Mahasiddha
Thangtong Gyalpo |
This prayer was composed by the great
compassionate Lord Chenrezig. It was passed down to Thangtong
Gyalpo's teacher, and from there with the blessing of Lord
Chenrezig, this prayer was practiced vastly by many great
masters. Mahasiddha Thangtong Gyalpo was renowned as one of the
greatest master who spreaded this practice across Tibet.
The brief history of this prayer: Once an
epidemic was spreading rampantly at one of the great monastery of
Sakya. Whatever the tantra masters tried -- effigies, tormas,
medicines, mantras, protection amulets, and so forth -- had no
effect, and the monastery was in danger of annihilation. At that
time, the great Mahasiddha, Thangtong Gyalpo performed this prayer
renowned as the vajra speech radiating masses of clouds of blessing
entitled 'The Prayer Liberating Sakya from Disease', during which
the entire epidemic immediately ceased in dependence upon its
performance.
In the present time of
degeneration where sentient beings are tormented by immense
sufferings, physically and mentally, this prayer is akin precious
soothing nectar. Thus, Rinpoche has compassionately requested the
organiser to include the oral transmission and short teaching of
this prayer to all His Malaysia's disciples.
Rinpoche has also thoughtfully recorded
this prayer to be uploaded in his website to benefit all beings
who have connection to hear this prayer, and
particularly for his students who have received the oral
transmission and wish to practice it. May all mother sentient
beings be liberated swiftly from their current pains and
sufferings.

the Buddha's teachings and re-established the Dharma practices in
Central Asia at a time of great turmoil. He is completely
inseparable from Guru Rinpoche and thus can be practiced as both
Yidam and Protector.

The Inner Meaning of Empowerment &
Important Points to Note:
Initiation or Empowerment (Tib: dbang;
pronounced as 'Wang'), generally can be likened to planting the
seed of enlightenment in the mind of the receivers. With proper
guidance and blessing of one's realized guru couple with diligent
practices, this will lead to inner transformation and eventually
progress towards the awakening of the inherent wisdom and
enlightened qualities.
Empowerment in a more profound aspect, is the
ripening of the mind stream or continuum of the qualified disciples
through the transmission of esoteric wisdom and realization from an
enlightened master.
In order to receive such blessings, the
recipients are advise to try their best to emulate the below
essential instructions during empowerment:
-
- The Vajra Master - must be viewed as the
Deity
- The Teaching - has to be treated as the
Tantra teaching of the Deity, and follow
every instruction of the Vajra
Master.
- The Recipient - has to visualize
themselves in the form of the Deity (not their ordinary
appearance)
- The Time - must be perceived as a
continuity that should never be broken
- The Place - should be viewed as the
Mandala or Pureland of the Deity
If you could not follow the practice in this
way, at least you must not allow your mind to wander around,
thinking all sorts of things, but try to remain in meditation,
visualize the Deity or recite His mantra. Do not make noise or
engage in idle chats.

King; (surround) The 8 Great Naga Kings |
What are the
Nagas?
Nagas are kind of long-lived serpent like beings who generally
live in oceans and bodies of water. There are many classes of
Nagas. The majority belong to the animal
realm, some are like hungry ghosts and hell beings,
experiencing great suffering and, some are like gods that
possess great power and are able to grant relative siddhis to
humans. These Nagas possess great worldly powers and are able to
heal sickness, affect weather, and bestow various types of wealth
etc. Sometimes great Bodhisattvas take birth as Nagas in order
to benefit sentient beings.
Humans engage in Naga practices in order to accomplish worldly
benefits such as to heal sickness, bring rain, attract wealth etc .
. . From the Vajrayana perspective, one may engage in Naga
practices where one makes offerings to Nagas in order to remove
worldly obstacles and accomplish worldly siddhis . . . to help
create a spiritual fortunate circumstance to assist one's journey
to enlightenment. For advance tantric practitioners, the Nagas hold
a deeper esoteric significance which will not be discussed
here.
It is important to understand that Nagas are worldly beings
who have not obtained freedom from Samsara and thus could not
provide ultimate refuge.
Why Is There a Need for Naga
Practice?
The Buddha has stated in the Sutras that there are many
Nagas who are tasked with the responsibility of caring for various
areas such as the seas, lakes, rivers, and mountains. These Nagas
benefit their respective areas of care and prevent the inhabitants
from being struck by misfortunes such as sickness, man-made or
natural calamities. It's believed that Nagas are the guardian of
water and earthly treasures; and live in extremely clean
environment such as deep oceans and pristine mountainous area.
However, the Nagas themselves are also subjected to various
misfortunes cause by environmental disturbances in where they live,
such as manmade pollutions, dumping of chemical waste, blood and
flesh of the slaughtered animals, war weapons etc caused the Nagas
to suffer tremendously.
At the same time, out of ignorance, humans have committed
various negativities such as ruthlessness and brutality toward
marine lives, unending wars and fights that killed countless
beings, uncontrolled logging that lead to forest degradation,
excessive mining to deprive the treasures of mother-earth etc.
These actions provoke the Naga's displeasure towards mankind.
The expression of the Nagas' discontent and agitation can be
felt in the form of various calamities such as tsunami, floods,
earthquakes, droughts, typhoons and so forth. They are also capable
of inflicting incurable, unknown and persistent illness to
mankind.
Therefore, the Buddha taught many methods of removing such
circumstances and difficulties related to the Nagas. Guru Rinpoche,
too, has given instructions for the removal of these obstacles. One
way is by offering the Naga vase. With the offering of these
precious vases, it helps to cure the Naga's sicknesses, replenishes
the earth's riches and repair mankind relationship with the Nagas.
This relieves Nagas from their present pains and sufferings, and
pacifies their resentment towards mankind. Thus one's obstacle with
the Nagas will be eliminated.
What are Naga Vases & the
Benefits of Offering it?
The Naga Vase has to be well consecrated with numerous
substances including a type of very rare and sacred preparation.
Other main substances are the five metals (gold, silver, iron,
copper, zinc), precious stones, Dharma pills, medicinal herbs, sang
powder, and relevant mantras. Finally, the Naga vases has to be
consecrated and blessed by the qualified master and monks.
The vases are then offered into the ocean, lake, river, or
spring falls preceded by a specific rituals and puja. During the
ceremony, fresh milk is poured into the water site as an auspicious
offering. Properly done, the puja will pacify their illnesses, end
their sufferings, restore their dwelling environments and revive
the wealth and energy of the Nagas. As such they will seek to
benefit the virtuous individuals who have offered the Naga vases,
thus bringing forth good fortunes and favourable circumstances.
SOME OF THE BENEFITS OF NAGA
PUJA & OFFERING:
- One will have good health and good fortune;
obstacles are removed and Nagas inflicted sicknesses will be
eliminated.

companions.

How to Offer Naga
Vase?
With a compassionate heart, we think of the sufferings endure by
the Nagas, and pray sincerely for the recovery, peace and wellbeing
of the injured and distressed Nagas:
"May
the Nagas be free from all their
sufferings;
May they have peace, good
health, long life and enjoy
abundances;
May
they attain the perfect Buddhahood
soonest".
As with all other practices, one should always dedicate the
merits towards the fulfillment of one aspiration, and that of all
sentient beings:
"May
all beings afflicted by the wrath of the Nagas be forgiven,
and
May they meet with the cessation of their
ailments;
By this generosity, may all beings
awaken to the mind of enlightenment, and
May this Naga offering assure prosperity for all
beings."
